Zoom into Research and Creative Work provides opportunities for students to meet faculty and learn about the exciting work they do outside the classroom.
UROP hosts light-hearted interviews with faculty from a wide range of departments at the beginning of each event. Student attendees then meet with faculty in Zoom breakout rooms.
Though students may connect with a potential project mentor, the purpose of the event is to help students see themselves as participants in the academic and creative life of the university—and to explore a range of potential identities.
Students who participate are likely to be surprised by the less direct and more failure-marked stories of the successful faculty behind the impressive headlines—and find more in common.

Colorado Diversity Initiative
Dr. Christina Alston is a distinguished science educator with almost two decades of experience in advancing STEM education and fostering diversity. Currently the Director of the Colorado Diversity Initiative and faculty affiliate in the School of Education at the University of Colorado Boulder, Dr. Alston oversees initiatives aimed at cultivating belongingness among historically minoritized and marginalized STEM graduate students. She possesses a Ph.D. & M.S in Education, with a focus on Urban Education, from the University of Houston and a B.S. in Biomedical Science from Texas A &M – Corpus Christi. Her research delved into the Racial Battle Fatigue of Black females who left the field of science, contributing to the field of equity in education. Recognized for her dedication and service, Dr. Alston has received several accolades, including the Pre-College Engineering Education Meritorious Service Award in 2022 from the American Society for Engineering Education.

UROP continues the celebration on Nov. 9 with Zoom into Research, which offers students the opportunity to explore academic identities with faculty from underrepresented communities.
