To apply for UROP funding, carefully read all of the eligibility and compliance guidelines, then follow the steps outlined below.


The UROP application process for all student and faculty grant types is entirely paperless, using secure and accessible online forms linked on this site.

Official communications, such as application confirmation and decision notice emails, are sent from urop@colorado.edu. Consider adding this address to your "safe senders" list to ensure you receive all important UROP notices.

Student Grant Application Process

Assistantships and Individual Grants

  1. Students apply by submitting their proposal with the UROP Student Grant Application, then
  2. Mentors receive an email with a link to access the UROP Mentor Endorsement form, which will close approximately 10 days after the deadline to apply for student grants.
  3. The application is complete when both the student and mentor have submitted their forms; incomplete applications will not be considered in the review and selection process.
  4. Proposals are reviewed by faculty on the UROP Review Board after the application deadline.
  5. Decision notices are sent from urop@colorado.edu; applicants should consider adding this address to a "safe senders" list.

Note: Students applying for more than one grant term and/or type, must submit a separate application for each.

Faculty Grant Application Process

Team and Publications Grants

  1. Faculty apply for Team and/or Publications Grants by submitting their proposal with the UROP Faculty Grant Application, then
  2. Account Managers identified in the application will be asked to verify the speedtype listed in the application.
  3. UROP will follow-up with applicants and/or account managers as needed to confirm the speedtype information.
  4. Proposals are reviewed by faculty on the UROP Review Board after the application deadline.
  5. Decision notices are sent by email from urop@colorado.edu; applicants should consider adding this address to a "safe senders" list.

Note: Faculty planning to apply for more than one grant term and/or type, must submit a separate application for each.

Department Development Grants

  1. Faculty apply for Department Development Grants by submitting their proposal with the Department Development Grant application, then
  2. The applicant's department/program chairs is asked to review and approve the proposal.
  3. UROP will follow-up with applicants and/or chairs as needed to confirm details of the proposal.
  4. Proposals are reviewed by the UROP Advisory Board after the application deadline.
  5. Decision notices are sent by email from urop@colorado.edu; applicants should consider adding this address to a "safe senders" list.

Submit a Department Development Grant Application

UROP funding may not be used to pay students from other universities or part-time CU students; to be eligible, students must be full-time, degree-seeking undergraduates at the University of Colorado Boulder.
