Author Terry Tempest Williams To Lecture Nov. 2 And Nov. 3 At Denver Public Library, CU-Boulder

The Center of the American West at the University of Colorado at Boulder will present two lectures by renowned nature writer Terry Tempest Williams on Nov. 2 in Denver and Nov. 3 on the CU-Boulder campus. Both talks are free and open to the public. Williams, the center's 2000 Distinguished Lecturer, will speak on "Homework: The Art of Inhabitation," at 7 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Denver Public Library in room B2 of the Conference Center. Those attending should use the library's west entrance. Her talk is co-sponsored by the Denver Public Library.

CU-Boulder Sponsors "Teacher's Night" Oct. 25

The University of Colorado at Boulder Outreach Committee and Office of Community Affairs are sponsoring "Teacher’s Night" at CU-Boulder for teachers and students in Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts to provide information about the wealth of outreach programs designed specifically for K-12 teachers and students. The program will be held Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the CU Museum of Natural History on the CU-Boulder campus.

"Mars Quest" At Fiske

Fiske Planetarium at the University of Colorado at Boulder will explore the red planet during "Mars Quest," Friday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the planetarium. The pre-recorded show examines the history of humankind’s exploration of Mars, glancing in at the planet from space and exploring its surface. The show also delves into the question of life on Mars.

CU-Boulder Parents Association Hosts Fall Parents Weekend Oct. 27-29

More than 5,000 parents and families of CU-Boulder students are expected to attend the annual Fall Parents Weekend to be held Oct. 27-29 on the CU-Boulder campus. The event draws parents from around the United States and from several foreign countries. For the first time parents and families are able to register online over the Internet, which will account for approximately half of all registrations this year, according to Leasa Weimer, director of parent relations.

CU-Boulder Fraternity Members To Harvest Pumpkins For Community Food Share

WHAT: A community service project for members of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, who will glean surplus pumpkins for Munson Farm to help feed needy residents in Boulder County. WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 8 a.m. WHERE: Corner of 75th Street and Valmont Road, Munson’s fresh vegetable stand.

Noted American Archaeologist To Speak At CU-Boulder Oct. 27

David Hurst Thomas, curator of anthropology at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and one the nation’s best-known archaeologists, will speak at the University of Colorado at Boulder Oct. 27 on his controversial book, "Skull Wars." Sponsored by the CU-Boulder anthropology department and funded by a department alumnus, the Sixth Annual Distinguished Archaeology Lecture will be held at 8 p.m. in room 270 of the Hale Science Building. The free public event, which coincides with CU Parents Weekend, will be followed by a reception.

University Hill Community Cleanup And Social Set For Oct. 22

The University of Colorado Student Union, in conjunction with the University Hill Neighborhood Association, will sponsor a neighborhood cleanup and social on Sunday, Oct. 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The meeting area for participants will be the University Hill parking lot located at 13th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. "This is a time to get to know one another and break down barriers to form a stronger, safer community for everyone," said Amanda Breeden, UCSU Community Relations director.

United States And Russia Release Arctic Climate Data

United States officials today announced the release of an Arctic Meteorological and Climate Atlas, which contains some previously restricted U.S. and Russian data, at a meeting of the Arctic Council in Barrow, Alaska.

Corporate Express Executive Receives Entrepreneurship Award From CU-Boulder

Gary Jacobs, executive vice president and founding investor in Broomfield-based Corporate Express Inc., today was awarded the 2000 Dean's Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence by CU-Boulder's College of Engineering and Applied Science. In making the award, Dean Ross B. Corotis said Jacobs' "exceptional leadership and innovations epitomize the goals of the comprehensive, technologically based education found in our country’s leading engineering colleges."
