The University Libraries will provide access to course reserve materials in electronic form only for the fall semester. Reserve materials will be provided as e-book purchases, full book scans and chapter scans. In order to have materials ready for the start of the semester, all instructors are encouraged to submit their requests for class materials as soon as possible.

E-books

The libraries will attempt to purchase e-book editions of titles not currently owned or available in our collection. All purchases require subject specialist approval.

E-books will be listed as on reserve in Chinook under the course’s listing and a URL will be sent to the instructor to add to their Canvas page.

Full book scans

The libraries will only scan full books if the libraries own a physical copy or if an e-book version of the book is unavailable or if the instructor provides a physical copy that can remain under the libraries’ care until the scan has been completed.

Full book scans will be delivered to instructors from the libraries as chapter scans for the instructor to upload to their Canvas page.

Chapter scans (In-house)

When possible, the libraries prefer to scan chapters over full books as full scans to reduce production time.

Chapter scans will be delivered to instructors through ILLiad for the instructor to upload to their Canvas page.

Chapter scans (Interlibrary Loan)

Instructors will have limited access to items not owned by the CU Boulder Libraries through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Individual book chapter scans can be provided by other libraries but are subject to copyright limitations. Instructors will receive chapter scans through ILLiad to upload to their Canvas page.

Instructors wanting to retrieve personal items from previous semesters should contact reserves directly. Beat the rush by submitting your course reserve requests now!
