Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences voted in September 2016 to implement a new set of general education requirements that will replace the current Arts and Sciences core curriculum. The new general education requirements are designed to allow students to pursue their passions while also ensuring that they venture into diverse areas of learning.
Departments or programs that wish to nominate a course to count for one or more of the requirements that are part of the new general education curriculum in the College of Arts and Sciences should visit the Academic and Curricular Affairs website. There, you can choose to nominate a course for one of the following categories:
- New Arts and Sciences courses
- Existing Arts and Sciences courses
- Courses from units outside the College of Arts and Sciences
Beginning on Dec. 22, the Curriculum Committee of the College of Arts and Sciences will accept nominations for courses to count for one or more of the requirements of the new general education curriculum, which will launch in fall 2018. The committee’s first meeting of the spring term will be in late January 2018.
The Arts and Sciences’ Curriculum Committee is chaired by Professor Leslie Irvine from the Department of Sociology. The General Education Implementation Committee is chaired by Professor Cora Randall from the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences.
