Where to find academic help

With the semester under way, this is a great time to use resources to help with projects, papers, assignments and exams. Here is a list of places you can go to find academic help.

Academic Success and Achievement Program

The Academic Success and Achievement Program (ASAP) offers free peer-tutoring support to first-year students and any students living on campus including first-year commuting Buffs, new transfer students and Bear Creek residents. Attend a one-on-one tutoring or small group session, or learn about study tips to review your class material.

ASAP has in-person and virtual tutoring sessions. You can sign up for sessions by downloading the Penji app.

The Writing Center

Do you sometimes suffer from writer’s block? Do you know how to cite your sources? No matter your academic field or writing level, the Writing Center can help you:

  • Discover effective writing techniques
  • Eliminate writer’s block and procrastination
  • Strengthen revision and self-editing skills
  • Learn proper citation to avoid unintentional plagiarism

Use the Writing Center at any point in your writing process, from figuring out how to start through your final draft. Schedule an in-person or virtual appointment, or attend a drop-in session at a Writers’ Lounge on campus to get feedback on your work.

Mathematics Academic Resource Center

The Mathematics Academic Resource Center (MARC) is a free service provided by the Department of Mathematics. MARC tutors are able to assist in all lower-division mathematics courses, as well as many upper-division courses.

Tutoring sessions will take place in person and virtually. Review the tutoring schedule to find a tutor and get the help you need.

No matter what you’re studying, you can find additional tutoring resources at CU Boulder to help your studies. Some services are specific to certain classes, departments or groups of students, and some may require a fee.

Faculty office hours

Faculty members make time during the week to be available for students outside of the classroom. Office hours allow you to meet one-on-one with your professor to ask questions or express concerns. Review your syllabus to find information about your professor’s office hours, or check with your instructors about virtual meeting options.

Student Academic Success Center

The Student Academic Success Center (SASC) is a multicultural academic learning community, serving low-income and first-generation college students. SASC offers:

  • Academic skills development
  • Math and writing courses
  • Supplementary instruction
  • Graduate research opportunities

Peer-to-peer academic tutors through the Learning Mentors Program are available to students participating in SASC learning communities.
