Earlier this month, CU Boulder researchers took their annual snow survey in the Green Lakes Valley, part of the city of Boulder watershed. The measurements are important for the state's water and fire management agencies.

The Niwot Ridge research site, maintained by CU Boulder and funded by National Science Foundation (NSF), has studied ecological change—both natural and human-caused—for over 30 years. The site includes and abuts the Continental Divide at more than 13,000 feet in elevation. A recent $6.8 million renewal grant to CU Boulder’s Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research (INSTAAR) ensures the research will continue for another six years.
