Hello to my fellow scholars! October flew by and we’re in a brand new month once again. Take advantage of these dwindling days of warm weather and get outside for some good times. I am Sarah Ellsworth: IPHY major, Boulder native, and event connoisseur, writing to you from the comfort of beautiful CU Boulder on all of your weekly opportunities for community involvement, educational whatnot and supreme fun. Tuesday, Nov. 1

Rooted: Be Self-Care Aware. Join the Dennis Small Cultural Center in UMC 204 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for a lesson in taking care of yourself when the going gets tough. This is a time for relaxation and restoration, and will feature free crafts, food and an education in caring for yourself mentally and physically during finals week. Don’t miss out! A Night With Maysoon Zayid. Catch award-winning stand up comedian Maysoon Zayid from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom for her discussion of life as a Muslim American woman with cerebral palsy. The talented Zayid has toured the world performing her comedy and acting as an educator about some topics that have traditionally been sensitive with the American public in the funniest possible way. Apply for an Alternative Break Trip. Alternative Break Trips can be a great way to simultaneously travel to a new place and work as a volunteer within a local issue, ranging from disability advocacy to homelessness to environmental conservation. These trips are relatively cheap for students and have to potential to change lives. Applications open today. Alternative Breaks

CWA Speaker Series presents Chris Moody. Swing by Old Main at 6:30 p.m. to hear Chris Moody, Twitter’s president of data strategy, speak on his work in the tech industry in an interview format. CWA hosts, and this event in their annual speaker series is free and open to all. Submit your questions for Moody on Twitter by tagging @CWABoulder. Chris Moody

Friday, Nov. 4

Bad Moms film screening. Get ye to the free screening of the new film, Bad Moms, starring Mila Kunis, at 8 p.m. in Chem 140 (a great movie-viewing venue). There will be free popcorn for those with a valid Buff OneCard, so be sure to get in on that! Bad Moms

Twelfth Night opening night. Be sure to be one of the first to see CU’s rendition of the classic Shakespeare rom-com and all female production, Twelfth Night. It premieres at 7:30 p.m. at the University Theater and tickets are $20. There will be laughs galore, a love story, and of course, cross dressing. Twelfth Night

Justice in a Warming World lecture. Assistant professor of environmental studies David Ciplet sees climate change as a social issues well as cold hard science. Come here him discuss what he believes to be the social causes of the problem in the Charlie Butcher Auditorium of the Biotech building (East Campus) from 9 to 11 a.m. This lecture is free and open to everyone. Monday, Nov. 7

The Nobel Lecture Series Fall 2016: Albert Camus by Professor Warren Motte. Come hear Professor Warren Motte of the French and Italian Department speak about the legendary, Nobel Prize winning author Albert Camus at 7 p.m. in the Boulder Bookstore (1107 Pearl St.). Camus was a leading philosopher of the absurdist movement and wrote many well known books in his time, including The Stranger. This discussion of his life and work is free and open to all.
