It is with excitement that I welcome you to campus for a new academic year.

One of our greatest assets is that we share a campus characterized by diversity in all forms which gives us the opportunity to learn from our many perspectives, cultures and backgrounds.

We anticipate our most ethnically and racially diverse freshman class for the seventh consecutive year, and our best academically prepared class for the third straight year. We expect 475 to 500 new international freshmen from 51 countries.

Our new students come from places big and small – they come from high schools with graduating classes ranging from 1,500 to eight.

Sharing and respecting diverse cultures, opinions and ideas is a foundation of higher education that we all value. We know that key factors influencing student success are campus social climate, a culture of inclusive excellence and the student’s academic experience.

Creating a welcoming and inclusive campus climate is not the job of one person, one office or one chancellor. It’s everyone’s job. Working together, we can make CU Boulder a model for universities across the nation in creating a vibrant and engaging environment for all.

Let’s make this a great year together.

Sincerely,

Philip P. DiStefano,
Chancellor
