The Fulbright Scholar Program has awarded scholarly grants to three University of Colorado at Boulder faculty members to lecture and conduct research abroad during the year.

Political Science Professor Susan Clarke is in the Netherlands on a distinguished lectureship award at the University of Amsterdam. Clarke has been lecturing on contemporary American politics at the University of Amsterdam since this January and will continue through May.

Associate Professor Polly McLean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication has been lecturing and conducting research at the University of Namibia at Windhoek since January. Her lecture and research topic is the Use of Media in Curriculum Development, Teaching Pedagogy and Student Learning. McLean will be at the University of Namibia through December.

Assistant Professor of History Thomas Zeiler is lecturing and doing research on U.S. History and Diplomacy at Torcuato Di Tella University in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is in Argentina from March to June.

This year roughly 750 U.S. faculty and professionals will receive Fulbright grants and another 725 visiting scholars from abroad will receive awards to conduct research in the United States. CU-Boulder has had six visiting scholars from Yemen, Sweden, Uzbekistan, Argentina, the United Kingdom and Slovenia during the 1998-99 academic year.

"The Fulbright Scholar Program is a marvelous opportunity for CU faculty," said Jean Delaney, director of International Education. "I wish more would take advantage of it." The program, which began in 1946, is sponsored and funded by the U.S. Information Agency.
