Chevez Smith(she/her/hers) born and raised in South Carolina, is a first generation college graduate from Coker University located in Hartsville, South Carolina. She received her BA in Theatre Performance in May of 2021. Becoming the first Master's student in the family, she hopes that her journey here at CU Boulder provides even more knowledge than what she came in with.
Chevez has focused her work on the art in local communities, combining specifically the social work community and theatre for the impowerment of the youth. Her passion is to bring forth a better opportunity with theatre and dance for those less forunate like she once was. Known for her willingness and helpful spirit, Chevez continues to love herself through being a black woman, a poet, an activitst, and a feminist in the world today. Chevez discovered her love and passion for acting as a junior in high school, and who knew transfering schools and taking a introduction level to acting would lead her here 8 years later! She thanks her family & mentors who give limitless support, love and encouragement! Without them along the way, it wouldn't be possible.
Performance/Technical credits include: Our Town by Thornton Wilder (Mrs. Webb); We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia[…] by Jackie Sibblies Dury (Actor 6/Black Woman); Twelfth Night (Maria); The Crucible (Elizabeth Proctor); Little Shop of Horrors (Patrick Martin/Ronnette); Steel Magnolias (Truvy Jones); Sweeney Todd (Stage Manager); The Mountaintop by Katori Hall (Director); and Climate Cabaret (Enesemble;Teller)
She loves to travel, take pictures, write poetry, try new foods and listen to music. But nothing tops enjoying downtime with family and friends. Chevez is most excited about this new journey and can't wait to see what awaits her in the next couple of years!
