Body Mind Centering® (BMC), developed by somatic pioneer, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, is an experiential study based on the embodiment and application of anatomical, physiological, psychophysical and developmental principles, utilizing movement, touch, voice and mind. The articulation of the body systems through the process of experiential anatomy and our early developmental patterning are the basic foundations of all of our movement, from the most simple to the most complex activities of the dancer and the athlete. A transformative process of movement re-education and hands on re-patterning, Body Mind Centering® also provides a sophisticated body based language for describing and analyzing movement and expression.

  • Students choosing to focus their somatic studies in Bonnie Bainbridge’s Body Mind Centering Method will follow the same criteria established for all students in the Somatic track.
  • Assigned readings, individual lessons, projects and workshops will be designed by Erika Berland, Certified Practitioner of Body Mind Centering® and Naropa faculty member.
  • All fees, schedules and regulations pertaining to BMC are completely independent of the Dance Division in the Department of Theatre and Dance and the University and are arranged directly with Erika Berland, BMC®.
  • Each student who completes the BMC intensive study will receive a statement of achievement from the dance program verifying the activities and number of hours completed.

Nada Diachenko is the advisor for students in the somatics concentration. She is the liaison between the Dance Division and the Body Mind Centering program and can be reached by calling 303-492-5038 or nada.diachenko@colorado.edu.
