Steve Taylor will share lessons learned from the past year of deploying container-based platforms at UIS. This is an update to his tech talk from September 2017, summarized below.

Container technology is transforming application deployment, and quickly delivering on the promise of infrastructure as a service. Steve Taylor will present mind-blowing techniques to solve infrastructure problems and deliver applications faster and more consistently. How? By using containers that abstract runtime environments for an application - libraries, configuration, and other binaries. Learn how to stand up your applications and automate infrastructure needs, including security, sub-domains, and documentation, using the open-source container software Docker and Rancher. Steve will share examples of recent application deployments at CU using containers, such as application monitoring, open design labs, and more.

Speaker: Steve Taylor. Steve is Assistant Director, Middleware Applications at UIS. Steve joined CU in 2015, and was quickly promoted. His team's charter is to accelerate application deployment with higher levels of security, performance, and reliability. Prior to joining CU, Steve consulted in the health-care industry, working on software integration and using tools like Artifactory and GIT to deploy and manage software artifacts. Realizing the need automate software deployment, he explored solutions for containerizing applications and developing microservices. Prior to 2002, Steve programmed industrial controls systems using C/C#, and worked on service-oriented architecture software.
