Opportunities to Engage with Peers & Colleagues

Center for Inclusion & Social Change

Students, faculty and staff can reach out to Center for Inclusion and Social Change (CISC) staff for individual or group virtual consultations to process what they are experiencing.
CISC plans to distribute affirmation rocks on campus starting Tuesday, April 20 at the SEEC vaccination site with a message of healing and unity.
Students are also invited to pick up a grab ‘n’ go bag from CISC, April 26 to 30, and talk to CISC and Dennis Small Cultural Center staff about available resources.

Center for Teaching & Learning

An ICoP Community Meeting, Wednesday, April 21, noon to 1:15 p.m. Inclusive Community of Practice (ICoP) meetings connect equity-minded folks around campus to develop inclusive practices and policies in the classroom through sharing and curation of existing and collaboratively innovated knowledge. This meeting will center around a discussion about how to best support our students and ourselves. Kate Ellsworth, director of education initiatives for the Center for Resilience and Well-being in Schools in the Institute of Behavioral Science will share ideas about validating stress and grief. Participants will engage in short reflective, contemplative exercises that can be used in the classroom and other meetings in the last few weeks of the semester.
Supporting Communication in the Classroom: Many instructors seek support handling polarizing topics that may arise in the classroom. In response to a tumultuous election season and racial and political unrest, the CTL has compiled a series of considerations to support conversations in the classroom
Supporting Students Through the End of the Semester: Students will be experiencing a range of emotions as the semester comes to an end. Many have been impacted by the act of violence at the Table Mesa King Soopers in Boulder, the anti-Asian racism evidenced by the shootings in Atlanta, and the pending verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin. The CU Boulder Center for Teaching and Learning has gathered resources to help your classroom preparations.

Health Promotion

(Virtual & in Person)

Health Huts: Health Promotion engages students in health and wellness activities around campus. On Tuesday, April 20, join for a session called Impactful Conversations, where you can learn how to have impactful conversations with friends, family or loved ones. 2 to 4 p.m. on the UMC northeast patio.
Mindful Mondays: Health Promotion provides mindfulness programs that allow students to engage in active mindfulness lessons and learn about resources on campus. Join us for Navigating Change, virtually or in person, on April 19 from 2-4 p.m. Hosted outside the Rec Center and via Zoom.
Wellness Wednesday: Health Promotion provides a space to engage in self-care activities, learn about campus resources and build community. On April 21 between 2-4 p.m., join us in person for Navigating Change and Uncertainty at the walkway between Music and Wardenburg.
Think about it Thursday: Take a step back and evaluate what’s really important to you. Activities include discussions around the pandemic, politics, relationships and more. Meaningful Conversations: April 22, 1-2 p.m., Zoom and Stress Management, April 29, 1-2 p.m., Zoom. Register to participate in sessions.

Students

E-Let’s Talk: Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) is providing e-Let’s Talk, which allows you to connect with a counselor for free and confidential drop-in services virtually. You can also sign up for a free virtual workshop to address issues related to grief, anxiety, self-care, relationships and more.
Virtual Workshops: Live telehealth workshops, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., call 303-492-2277, including workshops such as:
- Feel Good Fridays: Weekly workshop to learn about a work of art followed by a related mindfulness practice such as guided meditation, which can undo stress, soothe the nervous system and help you feel relaxed and revitalized. Fridays, 12:15 p.m. Register to participate.
- Anxiety Toolbox: Seminar provides life-long tools you can use when facing anxiety-triggering situations. Mondays, 3-4 p.m., Tuesdays, 2-3 p.m., Wednesdays, 1-2 p.m., and Fridays, 11 a.m. to noon. Call 303-492-2277.
- Navigating Difficult Conversations: Two-part workshop that provides tips and tools to help you navigate discussions about difficult or controversial topics. Thursdays, 3-4 p.m. Call 303-492-2277.

Faculty & Staff

FSAP: The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) will prioritize scheduling for employees who are experiencing emotional distress related to the Derek Chauvin trial the week of April 19 and the weeks following the verdict and subsequent events. If any employee is experiencing a psychiatric emergency, please contact Real Help Hotline (833-533-CHAT (2428).

Traumatic Support Resources

Reactions may happen to people who experienced a traumatic event firsthand. During this time, many find the greatest support from their community and those with whom they are close.

Don't Ignore It: Don’t ignore mental health concerns, racism, harassment, discriminatory actions, unwanted sexual behavior, abuse in a relationship, stalking and other interpersonal violence and abusive conduct. You’ll find options for reporting, support resources and ways to help others
Office of Victim Assistance (OVA)
E-Ask an Advocate; every Tuesdays, 2-3 p.m.: During these one on one consults, Office of Victim Assistance (OVA) advocate counselors can help provide insight, solutions and information about one’s rights and options around traumatic experiences as well as refer to on-going support. While available every Tuesday, on April 27, will be a time to specially ask about discrimination and experiences of bias. You can also call 303-492-8855 to talk with a confidential advocate counselor outside of this time.
