Sydney Arens graduated from Wayne State University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in sociology. Her master’s thesis investigated the relationship between sexual guilt and religious identity. Her research interests include sexual health, sexual violence, religion, and access to health resources. Sydney is originally from rural West Michigan and enjoys studying problems that exist within her hometown, such as sexual health stigmatization and lack of sexual health resources. She desires to use her abilities and privilege as an educated woman to promote a healthier and sustainable society by producing research that elucidates social health inequalities. Sydney is confident that she will apply her sociological insight to urge policymakers to develop healthcare strategies that empower marginalized communities and create a healthier society.
