The CU Boulder Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic (SLHC) offers evaluation and therapy services during the spring and fall academic semesters.  Services are available for clients of all ages, and for a wide range of communication disorders and concerns. The 2019 fall semester offerings include the services listed below. Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) Assessment and Therapy: Evaluation and therapy for children and adults for use of non-oral, technology-based communication devices.  

Child Speech and Language Assessment and Therapy: Evaluation and therapy for speech sound production, receptive and expressive language development for children ages toddler and older.

Clearly Speaking: Accent Modification assessment and training for adolescents and adults who are non-native English speakers, focusing on speech articulation and clarity.

Language and Auditory Processing (LAP) Assessment: Assessment with a speech-language component and hearing-listening component to determine if a person’s communication difficulties are due to a Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) rather than to other problems with speech, language, and/or cognition.  

Language and Learning Disorders (LLD) Assessment: Evaluation of language, learning, and literacy for school-aged children through adults.

Reading, Writing, and Spelling Intervention

  • Literacy Lab I: Therapy for school-aged children who are struggling with learning to read, write, and spell.
  • Literacy Lab II: Therapy for children 3rd grade through middle school who struggle with written language composition, handwriting, spelling, and product development consistent with Colorado State Standards.

Speech, Language, and Listening Therapy: Assessment and therapy for any child or adult who is deaf or hard of hearing. All types of communication, including sign language, are accepted. Individualized approaches are developed according to the individual’s preferred means of communication.

Stuttering Assessment and Therapy: Assessment and therapy for children and adults across the lifespan who are experiencing stuttering or other fluency challenges.

Voice Assessment and Therapy: Perceptual and instrumental assessment and treatment for vocal features, including pitch, loudness, rate, quality, inflection, and resonance.

  • Gender-Inclusive Voice and Communication Training: Assessment and training for individuals who identify as transgender or gender non-conforming, too support safe, efficient and effective voice and communication habits that reflect their gender identity and personal style.
  • LSVT LOUD: We offer the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment program.  LSVT Loud is an intensive voice and speech therapy for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and other neurological conditions.

Adult Neuro Services and Chat Group

  • Chat Group: A weekly communication practice, support, and social opportunity for adults with aphasia (an acquired language disorder due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, or other medical condition).
  • Individual Adult Neuro: Assessment and therapy for adults with acquired speech, language, and /or cognitive changes due to stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), or other medical condition.

CAART: Assessment and intervention for adults who have sustained a concussion and who are experiencing attention, memory, and/or thinking challenges as a result.

  • Stuttering Support Group: A support and practice group for adults who stutter. We offer a supportive, stutter-friendly place where you can speak your mind, talk (and laugh), receive support, and work on skills to better manage stuttering if you’d like. All persons who stutter are welcome!
