Would you like to make a 3D video game like Pacman in 3D? Or do you want to save the world from a pandemic? What happens when an ecosystem population gets out of control? What factors most affect how far a wildfire will spread? It turns out that the skills to design all of those scenarios are the same. Playing a 3D game may be fun for a while; however, once it's solved, you are done. But simulating a real-life situation is not a solved problem and modeling it is as challenging and fun, or more so, than a video game, especially when it is 3D. Students will use AgentCubes Online to learn to create 3D projects that make a game of solving a problem, such as those above. Students will see how the same computational thinking techniques used in designing a game like Pacman or Space Invaders are used to model real-world problems that have not yet been solved. To further sharpen problem-solving skills, as well as take a break from the keyboard, students will participate in solving some puzzles, including some involving role-playing.
This virtual program requires a computer, tablet or smartphone with Zoom capability. Please ensure that the latest version of Zoom is installed on the device your child will be using. Note: School-issued Chromebooks have a number of restrictions that may cause accessibility issues.
