Drop-Off Location: Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building
This one-week class is perfect for students interested in all things virology. Students will learn the basic tenets of virology, with a special focus on viral replication and evolution. Expert presentations will expose students to the many ways researchers study viruses in the lab, including cutting-edge fluorescence microscopy and bioinformatic techniques. Through guided and interactive exercises, students will gain experience analyzing microscopy images, designing experiments, and interpreting results. The class will culminate with student presentations about the family of viruses they study in their mock research labs. What is known about the viruses, and what remains to be discovered? Which experiments could answer their questions, and how would they analyze the results? These experiences will help students craft scientific arguments using experimental results and well-founded logic.
