Rockets for Junior Astronauts
3, 2, 1 – BLAST OFF! Spend the week learning about flight on earth and into space, rocket design and life as an astronaut in our longest-running summer camp. Leading up to camp week, be sure to set aside a variety of clean recyclables—as we learn more about rockets and space, we’ll construct our very own hand-made, life-sized rocket. Storybooks will spark our engineering imaginations as we explore making simple machines to enhance our rocket ship designs. We'll close out our week by inviting our families to help us launch our rockets into outer space together!
Calling all Jr. physicists! Join us as we explore all things physics and demystify why and how things move. We will experiment with gravity, forces and motion, and construct simple machines as we learn about basic physics principles. Oodles of hands-on activities will aide in our discovery as we put on our thinking caps and dive into the various forces that make things move, float, and fly! Your Jr. physicists will receive materials to contract boats, planes, kits, wheel and axles, and more to use as we test our theories.
Masks are required to be worn for all in-person programs. All participants will receive a short health screening and a thermal temperature check upon arrival to the check-in area for each class gathering.
What to Bring: Because this is a full-day, in-person camp, participants are required to bring the following to each camp:
- Backpack for carrying their personal items and any camp materials they will be taking home. Note: In order to limit individual interactions, all participants will be required to keep their items together.
- A mask appropriately sized to cover the child's nose and mouth and any additional Personal Protective Equipment the child will be utilizing. Note: Wearing of masks will be required for all participants.
- Filled water bottle.
- A sack lunch and 1-2 snacks, depending on the child's needs.
- All programs spend a portion of each day outside. Please send your child with clothing appropriate for the weather (jacket, sweatshirt and/or rain jacket).
Grade Policy: Careful consideration is used to determine grade levels for all camps and classes. To provide the highest quality experience for all students, it is necessary to adhere to the specified grade range for this program.
Cancellation and Transfer Policy: Science Discovery has designed its cancellation policy to minimize the number of program spots that are unused due to last-minute cancellations. Cancellations made more than 15 business days prior to the start of the program will incur a $35 administrative fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations made within 15 business days of the start of the program. In the event that a program is cancelled by Science Discovery, registrants will receive a full refund. Transfer requests made up to 15 days prior to the start of a program will incur a $15 administrative fee. Transfer requests made within 15 business days will incur a $35 administrative fee.
