Kids Coding
You’re never too young to start coding! This camp will introduce new coders to key computer science concepts through a combination of hands-on, ‘unplugged’ activities and introductory coding activities using colorful drag-and-drop blocks. We’ll use free coding platforms for kids, including Scratch 3.0 and Code.org Studio, to learn some fundamental coding concepts, like algorithms and loops. Scratch allows us to create our own characters, stories, animations and games, and we can re-mix existing programs found in the Scratch gallery. We can code a dance party, animate our names, or design a high-flying superhero. Along the way, we’ll create away from the screen as well, as we learn important coding concepts. Kid Coders gives young learners a boost in programming in a fun, active environment that strengthens creativity and conceptual thinking.

Novel Engineering
Join us on this literary journey as our imaginations run wild with all the possibilities the world offers! Let’s dive into a good book, put on our creative thinking caps and solve challenges! Each week a new theme and new challenges to overcome. All budding engineers welcome!

Masks are required to be worn for all in-person programs. All participants will receive a short health screening and a thermal temperature check upon arrival to the check-in area for each class gathering.

What to Bring: Because this is a full-day, in-person camp, participants are required to bring the following to each camp:

  • Backpack for carrying their personal items and any camp materials they will be taking home. Note: In order to limit individual interactions, all participants will be required to keep their items together.
  • A mask appropriately sized to cover the child's nose and mouth and any additional Personal Protective Equipment the child will be utilizing. Note: Wearing of masks will be required for all participants.
  • Filled water bottle.
  • A sack lunch and 1-2 snacks, depending on the child's needs.
  • All programs spend a portion of each day outside. Please send your child with clothing appropriate for the weather (jacket, sweatshirt and/or rain jacket).

Grade Policy: Careful consideration is used to determine grade levels for all camps and classes. To provide the highest quality experience for all students, it is necessary to adhere to the specified grade range for this program.

Cancellation and Transfer Policy: Science Discovery has designed its cancellation policy to minimize the number of program spots that are unused due to last-minute cancellations. Cancellations made more than 15 business days prior to the start of the program will incur a $35 administrative fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations made within 15 business days of the start of the program. In the event that a program is cancelled by Science Discovery, registrants will receive a full refund. Transfer requests made up to 15 days prior to the start of a program will incur a $15 administrative fee. Transfer requests made within 15 business days will incur a $35 administrative fee.
