Science Discovery’s Teen Science Café offers Boulder area teens an opportunity to meet and interact with scientists in a fun and informal setting designed to inspire conversation and interaction. Cafés are always free and meet monthly during the academic year at the Lafayette Public Library (unless otherwise noted). Topics and presenters are identified by Café Coordinators, who help guide the program and run Café events. Past Café topics span a wide range of STEM fields – from ecology to medicine to astrophysics. The Science Discovery Teen Science Café is a founding member of the Teen Science Café Network.

Become a Café Coordinator

Be part of the team responsible for planning one-of-a-kind STEM events designed to connect local area teens with CU scientists. Apply to become a Café Coordinator! Café Coordinators will work together to plan, host and help recruit participants for monthly Teen Science Café events. Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to apply: 

  • Be a current sophomore, junior or senior in high school 
  • Be available to meet twice monthly on Wednesdays from 4-5:30pm in-person and via web chat 
  • Be available to attend monthly Café events from September through April and assist with set-up and clean-up from approximately 4-7:30pm
  • Be a Café ambassador willing to share event information with peers and get them excited about attending  
  • Have a strong interest in STEM topics and the willingness and ability to share your knowledge with fellow Coordinators 

Café Coordinators must have attended two or more past Cafés, be available to fulfill Coordinator responsibilities and demonstrate a high level of leadership and initiative.

The Café Coordinator application (coming soon) will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. It will be necessary to set aside enough time to complete the application in one session. It is recommend to save your answers in a document on your computer so you will have back-up in the event of technological problems.
