The merger is addressing pressing needs in quantum research for CU Boulder spinout ColdQuanta—as well as the quantum industry. Both companies are affiliates of Q-NEXT, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Quantum Information Science Research Center led by Argonne National Laboratory.

The city of Boulder and researchers at CU Boulder have joined forces to document and study the urban heat island effect. By deploying specially protected thermometers throughout Boulder, researchers hope to gather data on how trees and vegetation can possibly reduce urban heat as part of a climate-mitigation plan.

Led by Associate Professor Marcus Holzinger (Aerospace Engineering), a team of CU Boulder researchers is embarking on a major project to advance science and monitoring for next generation of space vehicles. The group has signed a five-year cooperative agreement with the Air Force Research Laboratory.

The Center for Asian Studies has won $2.2 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Education to support its role as a National Resource Center in Asian Studies and to provide Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships for students at CU Boulder.

The sensor features an impressive 83% accuracy rate when detecting contamination in surface waters. The findings were recently published in Water Research, and could improve detection of a variety of contaminants quickly and effectively in water systems around the globe and in America.

The university also scored highly in 10 other academic categories in the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy’s 2022 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, highlighting the breadth of impactful CU Boulder research. The annual ranking includes over 1,800 universities from 96 countries scored across 54 categories.

To celebrate the growing partnerships between the College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS) and Sandia National Laboratory, CEAS's Research Support Office will host Sandia Day 2022—with research presentations, a poster session and networking event—from 2:15–5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29 on the first floor of the Gallogly Discovery Learning Center.

Six grants and one sponsorship totaling $30,500 have been awarded by the Office for Outreach and Engagement, in partnership with the Research and Innovation Office and the Natural Hazards Center, to support community-engaged scholarship connected to the Marshall Fire.
