You have the choice to register to vote with your hometown address or your current address while attending CU Boulder. When choosing, please note the following:

  • You cannot register and/or vote in both locations.
  • Your ability to vote in local elections will be based on the address you chose (i.e., if you use your Boulder address, you will be eligible to vote in local Boulder and Colorado elections, not your hometown elections).
  • If you register to vote in Colorado, please be aware that doing so will make you eligible for jury duty. A jury summons is rarely excused for students, even during final exams.

The following voter registration resources and forms are provided in accordance with federal and state legislation.

Register to Vote in Your Home State

College students may register to vote in their hometown if they choose. Access your state's voter registration form through the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission, and be sure to request an absentee ballot before Election Day.

Register to vote online through the Colorado Secretary of State website or complete a paper registration form and mail it to: Colorado Department of State, Elections Division, 1700 Broadway, Suite 200, Denver, CO 80290.

All active, registered Colorado voters automatically receive a ballot in the mail a few weeks before Election Day. If you choose to vote in person, you'll need to present an acceptable form of identification and surrender your mail ballot.
