The Interdisciplinary Certificate in Writing requires a minimum of 18 hours, and more typically 19 hours, in the specified certificate curriculum (see below), with at least 9 of those hours at the upper-division. Certificate candidates may not apply more than two courses (6 credit hours) from their major. Students granted the certificate will have earned at least a “C” in any Certificate course, and will have averaged at least a “B” across all Certificate courses.

Courses within the PWR (at least 6 credit hours)

  • Courses within the PWR that fulfill the A&S upper-division written communication requirement

Courses outside the PWR (at least 6 credit hours)

  • Courses outside the PWR that fulfill the A&S upper-division written communication requirement
  • Courses outside the PWR that treat theories and contexts pertaining to writing

Practicum Course(s) (at least 1 credit hour)

  • Required Portfolio Curation
  • Options relevant to specific interests and career goals

The Certificate in Writing will be noted on the student’s transcript.
