CU Psychology and Neuroscience graduate student Jane Barker (Cognitive) and her mentor Yuko Munakata (Cognitive) were in the popular press regarding some research published online in the journal Frontiers in Psychology. This research, co–authored by several other members of the Munakata lab, suggests that young children (ages 6–7) who engage in more less-structured activities have better goal–directed Executive Functioning (EF); that is, they are better able to set up and follow goals on their own to accomplish a task compared to children who engage in more structured activities. Read The Atlantic’s article, or the CBS News article, or the Daily Camera’s article, or the CU-Boulder press release, or read the original research article.

The College of Arts & Sciences at CU-Boulder, in collaboration with University Communications, the Academic Advising Center, and the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, has produced a video promoting the Psychology major for prospective students and those current students undecided about their major.
