On October 17, 2018, Senior Fellow Dave Archambault II joined tribal leaders including President Fawn Sharp and Vice President Tyson Johnston of the Quinault Indian Nation, Chairman Thomas Wooten of the Samish Indian Nation, and Chairwoman Frances Charles of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe at a rally to support Washington State Ballot Initiative 1631. If it passed, the Initiative would have charged large industrial polluters a fee for emitting carbon. The money raised from the fees would be used to support projects aimed at reducing pollution and protecting the environment. On November 6, 2018, the State of Washington voted against the Initiative, with 43.43% voting for it and 56.57% voting against it.
