In August of 2015, Dr. Sara Thompson returned to CU Boulder and began her tenure as dean of the Division of Continuing Education and vice provost of Summer Session and Outreach and Engagement. An alumna of CU Boulder’s Leeds School of Business, Dr. Thompson has more than twenty years of experience as an entrepreneurial academic leader developing successful professional master’s programs at The Catholic University and Johns Hopkins University.
“It’s exciting to return to the university that helped shape me,” Thompson said. “The knowledge and skills I acquired as a marketing student in the Leeds School of Business MBA program have been instrumental to my career in higher education building academic programs that meet the needs of students in creative and innovative ways.”
Dr. Thompson brings an emphasis on building partnerships to all new program development. She drew on her prior experience to engage partners from across campus and in the community to bring the MSOL to fruition, including the Graduate School, several other campus departments, and members of local, regional, and national organizations. The program compliments existing MBA and leadership programs on the Boulder campus by offering students more options for flexibly reaching their desired career outcomes.
“The Division of Continuing Education has been at the forefront of education innovation at CU Boulder. We’re always looking for new ways to change the lives of students and communities by extending the resources of the university and providing outstanding lifelong learning opportunities,” Thompson said. “This program underscores our commitment to serving nontraditional students who are interested in expanding their professional knowledge and skills in a fast-paced and complex work world.”
