A complete application includes:

  • Online Application
  • $50 application fee
  • Statement of Purpose (approximately 500 words)
    • State your purpose for undertaking graduate studies, your personal and professional goals, and how participation in the Master of Arts in Journalism Entrepreneurship program will help you attain those goals.
  • Three letters of recommendation: At least one must be a professional recommendation from a former or current supervisor or colleague.
  • A current résumé detailing your professional experience, education, awards, publications, volunteer activities, etc. Candidates typically have a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience.
  • Unofficial transcripts from all colleges attended. Transcripts must provide evidence of completion of a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree or its 4-year international equivalent. We expect applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75.
    • Please submit unofficial copies of transcripts with the application; official transcripts should only be submitted if you are admitted and enroll.
    • All international transcripts must be accompanied by an English translation and an evaluation by a transcript evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES®).
  • GRE scores, if desired.
    • This score is optional. You are not required to submit a GRE score but it can strengthen your application.
  • International students must also submit official scores from a test of English proficiency. Applicants should have at a minimum:
    • TOEFL test scores of 600 (paper-based) or 100 (internet-based), or
    • An IELTS score of 7.0.

​After your application is submitted, request the TOEFL testing agency report your official score directly to the University of Colorado (institution code 4841). IELTS scores should be reported in the application.

Transfer Credit

Up to nine (9) credit hours of coursework will be considered for transfer if it meets departmental and Graduate School requirements. Coursework must be graduate level, completed with a “B” or better in the past 5 years at a regionally accredited college, and be directly relevant to the program.
