Daniel Amarelo
Alumni
Department of Spanish and Portuguese

Daniel was born and raised in Galiza (Northwest Spain), where they received his degree in Galician Language and Literature, with minor specializations in General Linguistics and Lusophone Studies from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). At the University of Colorad Boulder, Daniel studied the MA in Hispanic Linguistics and served as Teaching Assistant. Since they come from a nation without a State and speak an endangered language, one of their research interests is the rights of communities with minority languages and the processes of linguistic substitution in the Iberian context. Other interests include interactional and sociocultural linguistics, queer theories, Galician studies, Brazilian studies, and nationalisms and pro-independence movements in Spain. They have studied the intersection between code choices, language practices, and dissident sexualities in the Galician context, with attention to the configuration of ‘agroqueer’ ideologies and identities.
