CU Police Chief Melissa ZakOn behalf of all of the members of the CU Police Department, I want to welcome our new students and welcome back our returning students.  You are on one of the most beautiful college campuses in the U.S.  As the Chief of the police department, I will assure you that the top priority for every member of our department is to make sure that you have a safe environment to pursue your academic goals.

Our largest crime on campus involves some type of property theft.  Please make sure that you take the time to properly secure your electronic devices and bikes, not to mention other valuables like jewelry and money.  With that said, serious criminal activity is rare on campus and in the Boulder area.

But, when serious crimes occur, we will make sure that you are aware of it.  Actually, we are required to under the Cleary Act of 1990. We will explain more about that next week.  But even if we were not mandated to inform you of serious criminal activity, we would do so to make sure that you are always aware of what is happening here on campus.

The best way to be informed about trends that we are seeing on campus or steps that you can take to help ensure your safety is by following us on our social media channels.  We are active on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram.  To find us, just search for CUBoulderPolice.

All of us at the University of Colorado Police Department are proud to be your police department and we are looking forward to a great year.  Go Buffs!
