Jason Mansoori
Fellow Physician - Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado • PLC 2003

Degree(s): Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology

Professional background, interests and expertise: After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in MCD-Biology, I matriculated to the University of Colorado School of Medicine. I then completed my Internal Medicine residency at the University of California San Francisco. Afterwards, I returned to Colorado and practiced for a year as an academic hospitalist at Denver Health Medical Center. I completed a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado and I am currently practicing at Denver Health Medical Center and the University of Colorado.

As an undergrad I connected with Dr. Leslie Leinwand's lab via the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURE), where I was first introduced to basic science research. In medical school I spent time performing leadership and curriculum development and subsequently in residency I partook in various policy, quality improvement and implementation research projects. Currently, my research interests and focus lie at the intersection of behavioral science and provider decision-making in the acute and critical care setting, applying a behavioral economics approach towards better understanding and predicting irrational provider decision-making and using behavioral economic "nudges" to steer providers towards more consistent, guideline-concordant, and high-value care.

Hours available for mentoring per month: 5-10

Best professional advice: Professions in the field of medicine are perhaps some of the most demanding but also most rewarding professions around. I love my job and the opportunity to blend rigorous science with direct service to others. As a physician, taking care of patients in their times of need and being part of such a profound shared human experience is a unique privilege. I strongly encourage anyone with an interest in medicine borne out of desire to help others and an academic interest in science to pursue a career in this field. Finding a mentor at each level of education and training who you connect well with and is willing to support you either personally or professionally is a crucial part of navigating and achieving success in medical careers.
