My research is part of a large effort at the University of Colorado Boulder to assess, rethink, and redesign our upper-level physics courses. Since Nov. 2010 I have worked closely with CU faculty members Heather Lewandowski (AMO Physics/JILA), Noah Finkelstein (PER), and others in the physics department to transform our senior-level Optics and Modern physics lab course.

Project highlights

  1. Incorporating modeling with experimental physics.
  2. Course transformation and curriculum design.
  3. Development of the Colorado Learning about Science Survey for Experimental Physics (E-CLASS) - a survey designed to compare students beliefs and attitudes about experimental physics with their perceived ideas about the goals of lab courses and their actual practices in the lab course.
  4. Computational physics across the physics curriculum (with Science Teaching Fellow Danny Caballero).
