Lieutenant Colonel Bryce K. Kawaguchi was born and raised on Maui, Hawaii. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2001 and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer.
His first assignment was with Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd ABN (AASLT) in South Korea where he served as a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer. LTC Kawaguchi later served as the Headquarters and Headquarters Company Executive Officer in Ramadi, Iraq from 2004-2005. Upon redeployment from Iraq, he attended the Infantry Captains Career Course (ICCC) at Fort Benning in 2006. Following ICCC, he served as the Ranger Training Brigade’s Adjutant/S-1 and as a Ranger Instructor/Platoon Tactical Trainer in Alpha Company, 4th Ranger Training Battalion.
In 2008, LTC Kawaguchi commanded Able Company, 3rd Battalion, 509th ABN at Fort Richardson, Alaska. He commanded ABLE NATION for 27 months, including a year-long deployment at COP Zerok, East Paktika, Afghanistan.
From 2010-2013, LTC Kawaguchi served as a Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC) Observer Controller- Trainer (OC-T), Executive Officer for 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment (OPFOR), and the JMRC Chief of Training in Hohenfels, Germany. Following Germany, LTC Kawaguchi attended the Canadian Joint Command and Staff Programme in Toronto, where he earned a Masters in Defence Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada.
From 2014-2015, LTC Kawaguchi served as the planner for 3rd Armor Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado and as the BCT S3 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. LTC Kawaguchi later served as the 4th Infantry Division Chief of Operations (CHOPS) for one year. In 2017, LTC Kawaguchi served as the J35 for a Special Operations Task Force in Afghanistan. Following this deployment, LTC Kawaguchi served as the Deputy Director for Army Protocol in the Office of the Chief of Staff, Army at the Pentagon. LTC Kawaguchi currently serves as the commander of 3rd Battalion, 196th IN BDE and as the Guam National Guard’s Senior Army Advisor to the Guard (SRAAG).
His awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Ranger Tab, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Parachutist Badge, the Brazilian and German Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
LTC Kawaguchi and his wife Tendula are the proud parents of a daughter (Mandarava) and a son (Amitabha).
