While your student is becoming a more independent person, they may still reach out for help from time to time. Here are some tips for helping your student succeed:
- Act as a mentor: listen, support and guide.
- Encourage your student. Suggest they talk to their advisor about study skills, time management, academic exploration and attending faculty office hours.
- Be an active and reflective listener. Ask open-ended questions that offer opportunities for your student to have more meaningful and thought-provoking conversations.
- Allow your student to make their own decisions. Your student should be autonomously solving problems and making their own decisions.
