Want to reduce your chances of getting a ticket while hosting a party?

Party registration, offered by Off-Campus Housing & Neighborhood Relations (OCHNR) and the Boulder Police Department (BPD), provides the opportunity to get a warning call before officers arrive if you receive noise complaints during your party.

Unlike a noise or nuisance party ticket, registration is FREE.
If a neighbor makes a noise complaint about your address, BPD dispatch will notify the registrant and give them a warning.
This warning will give the registrant 20 minute to shut down the party before police are dispatched to your house or apartment.
You do not want the cops to stop by, and this limits the chance of that happening.
Party registration gives you an opportunity to take responsibility before the cops arrive.
OCHNR provides swag bags for in-person registrations and often provides free food or prizes for certain high impact weekends like Halloween, St. Patrick’s day, etc.

To be eligible to register, CU students must attend an in-person party registration orientation with OCHNR staff. Orientations last roughly 45-60 minutes, but once you take the orientation you are eligible to register your parties for the entire school year.
Email och@colorado.edu to find out when Party Registration Orientations are taking place each week. Orientations are typically held Thursday and Friday afternoons.
Be sure to bring your Buff OneCard, your residential address and contact number.
Greek organizations must make an appointment with OCHNR at och@colorado.edu for a Greek-specific orientation with their exec board.
Please note that students will need to take the orientation each year.

You must live at the house being registered. You cannot register a friend's party.
Party registration is for noise complaints only. Other violations like underage drinking, consuming alcohol in public, brawling, fireworks, etc. are not included in the program.
Party registration does not give you permission to violate noise ordinances and is not a noise permit. It is only a warning system to help reduce chances of citations.
You cannot register parties in common areas (e.g. an apartment courtyard).
Registering your party is not a guarantee that the police will not show up to your party, but it is your best way to reduce your chance of getting a noise ticket.
Houses that receive two consecutive warnings from dispatch may lose party registration privileges.

Regardless of party registration, you are still responsible for obeying city laws. If the cops should show up at your unit, be cooperative. Let them know you registered and be sure to shut your party down. If you ignore the warning, whether by phone or by the police, you are likely to get a ticket.
