Vance serves the University of Colorado community providing technical leadership for the Faculty Information System (FIS) team.

With over twenty years experience in systems architecture, software development and management, Vance focuses on creating value for CU faculty and university stakeholders.

Vance holds a Masters Degree from Stanford University and dual undergraduate degrees from CU Boulder in business administration and environmental biology as well as post-graduate executive certification in educational administration from the University of Denver.

In the mid-1990s, Vance worked at the Office of Information Techology (OIT) with the original team developing FIS.

Prior to rejoining FIS in 2008, Vance served as co-founder and senior architect at a Boulder startup and Netflix competitor leading and managing the development of innovative over-the-top media services. Vance holds the 2000 Outstanding Accomplishment Award at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) and headed up the marketing and development team that created software for Intel's Electronically Trainable Analog Neural Network (ETANN) chip and provided artificial neural network consulting services to the Eastman Kodak Company and Medtronic.

A Presidents Leadership Class and Semester at Sea alumnus, while studying at CU Vance performed field work under the direction of Vera Komarkova for the Niwot Ridge Long Term Ecological Research project.
