Beginning with the 2021-22 performance cycle, OCG is utilizing Cornerstone for Performance Planning and Reviews. As we implement Cornerstone, this page will be updated with resources, links and other information to guide us through.

Cornerstone is an online performance management system for both performance planning and reviews adopted by CU Boulder. Think of it as the "System of Record" for your Performance Plans and Reviews. Approximately 60% of campus units are utilizing this tool.

  • User friendly
  • Capture goals and feedback throughout the year in one place
  • Iterative and easy to adjust to changing situations throughout the year
  • Recurring history in one place
  • All electronic – no more routing awkward Word forms
  • Align work in support of unit goals and Chancellor’s Strategic Imperatives
  • Facilitate more frequent and meaningful conversations between employees and supervisors related to goal alignment, performance and employee development

One of the benefits of adopting Cornerstone is the ability to document trainings you complete and make them visible to your supervisor. As mid-year check-ins start to happen, everyone is encouraged to update your Performance Plan in Cornerstone and include trainings taken throughout the year. You can add certificates of completion or email confirmations as attachments. You can note trainings and completion dates in the comments. If you have any questions or want to discuss approaches to using Cornerstone for capturing your training activity, please reach out to your supervisor.

Each employee should track their professional and technical training, as OCG Training no longer tracks individual’s training in a separate database. Training taken through SkillSoft is maintained in SkillSoft and certificates of completion can be downloaded from SkillSoft.

OCG Support

During the performance planning stage in March 2021 and the performance review stage in February 2022, several Hands On Sessions will be offered to assist staff with using and inputing performance goals into Cornerstone. Outlook invitations will be sent for those sessions.

  1. Create and submit your performance plan goals in Cornerstone by March 12, 2021 that may include job duties and other goals. The campus core competencies are automatically populated in your performance plan.
  2. Upload/attach your performance evaluation for this past year (2020-21) to your profile.
  3. Meet with your supervisor to review your Cornerstone performance plan by March 31, adding additional goals or job duties as needed during that session.

  • Meet 1:1 with each employee to review their Cornerstone performance plan before March 31.
  • Add additional goals or job duties as needed and discussed during that session.
  • Work with employee to add descriptions or other information as needed to performance plan items.
  • Approve goals/job duties/competencies within the performance plan by March 31

These sessions will be interactive, walking you through the steps to login and create performance plan goals and to complete the performance plan process. We will also have sample performance plan goals to share.
