The Takacs Quartet, the renowned string ensemble based at the CU Boulder College of Music, offered one of many tributes to actor Philip Seymour Hoffman after the Oscar-winning actor was found dead Sunday.
The finalists for the position are Mary Ellen Poole, former dean of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Robert Shay, director of the School of Music at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
A short video about Stephen Wade's forensic musicology project and book, "The Beautiful Music All Around Us." Wade will give the 2014 Robert R. and Ruth J. Fink lecture on Feb. 10.
Moved by a performance of the 2013 Holiday Festival, one of the College of Music's and CU Presents' most popular events year after year, University of Colorado Regent Stephen Ludwig authored a poem, "Cosmic Gift," that distills some of the emotions stirred by the performance.
CU-Boulder College of Music faculty, students and alumni at the biennial Symposium on Music Teacher Education, which took place this September at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
The program will feature presentations by Rabbi Jeffrey Summit of Tufts University and Associate Professor of Music Theory Yonatan Malin, on their work in the area of Jewish music. There also will be musical presentations from Eyal Rivlin, lecturer in Hebrew at CU, and cantors Michelle Wolf and Joe Lukasik.
