As an incoming student applying to the College of Music at CU Boulder, you will have to complete two separate application processes, one through CU Undergraduate Admissions and another for the College of Music. Below are the deadlines for both processes. It is critical to remain in contact with both CU Undergraduate Admissions and the College of Music as you navigate the applications.
Dec. 1: Priority deadline for College of Music application, including the following materials:
Feb. 15: Deadline to submit:
March 15: Deadline to complete all in-person auditions with the College of Music (for admission consideration)
Oct. 1: Deadline to submit both the CU Boulder Undergraduate Admissions application and the College of Music Admissions application. College of Music will require the following:
Nov. 15: Deadline to submit recorded auditions or complete all in-person auditions with the College of Music (including ad hoc auditions)
Note: Jazz does not take applications for Spring term.
The College of Music does not take applications for Summer term.
Note: Although the final application deadline for transfer students is Feb. 15, we recommend that you apply by Dec. 1 to guarantee your audition at one of our Saturday audition dates in February. Most scholarships are awarded to students who audition in February.
If you are receiving a music scholarship from your current institution you must submit a Scholarship Release Form before you may be considered for any music scholarships at CU Boulder. Students who audition will automatically be considered for our merit-based music scholarships.
Student may transfer into the College of Music from another college on the CU Boulder campus.
Students interested in transferring to the College of Music or adding music as a second major must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher. Students must apply and audition to be accepted into the College of Music. Apply to transfer to the College of Music here.
Note: Athough the application deadline for intrauniversity transfer students is April 1, we strongly recommend that you apply by Dec. 1 so that you may attend one of our Saturday audition dates in February. Additionally, most scholarships are awarded to students who audition in February.
Once you are accepted to CU Boulder and to the College of Music, the Office of Admissions will evaluate your transfer credit. Then, the College of Music office will determine how that credit will apply towards your degree. Please visit the University of Colorado Boulder’s Transfer Credit Guideline page. Unfortunately, we cannot evaluate your transfer credit until you have been admitted to the program. However, there is a great online tool you can use to help you understand how your credits might transfer: CU Boulder has partnered with Transferology, a college planning and transfer credit resource. Create your own account to see what courses might transfer to CU Boulder.
