Thermal-fluids research in the Department of Mechanical Engineering is focused on a wide range of both fundamental and applied problems related to energy conversion, heat and mass transfer, combustion, and fluid mechanics.

Experimental, theoretical, and computational approaches are used to study thermal-fluids phenomena covering an enormous range of scales, from heat transport at micro and nano scales to the properties of the atmosphere and ocean over many kilometers.
