Educational Project Funding for Students and Faculty

  • Engineering Excellence Fund - EEF provides funding for proposals that contribute to creating an innovative environment for engineering education.  They support a wide range of projects from building renovations to course development and funding for student organizations.  Funding is allocated in three cycles (Fall Minis, Spring Minis, Spring Majors) throughout the year, with more details available on their website. 

Student Organization Funding

  • University of Colorado Engineering Council - UCEC provides funding for student organizations affiliated with the College of Engineering.  Anticipated budgets are due at the beginning of the fall semester, with each organization allocated a set amount based on their budget.  Questions can be directed to sharon.e.anderson@colorado.edu
  • CU Student Government - The Student Organization Allocation Committee within CUSG reviews proposals from CU-affiliated student organizations for administrative, event, and travel costs.  Organizations applying for funds must be registered with the Center for Student Involvement. 

Student Researcher Stipends and Fellowships

  • Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program - UROP provides a broad range of funding opportunities to support undergraduate research. Proposals are due in mid-February for the following summer and academic year.
  • Undergraduate Biological Sciences Initiative - BSI is similar to UROP, but focused specifically on research in biology related fields.
  • ME Graduate Summer Fellowships and Research Assistantships - Faculty advisors can apply for funding from the Graduate Program to provide financial support for PhD students over the summer term.  Questions should be directed to peter.hamlington@colorado.edu

Conference Travel Funding

  • ME Graduate Program Travel Grant - Provides funding of up to $250 for in-state conferences and up to $750 for out-of-state conferences.  Applicants must be presenting a paper or poster. Open to both PhD and MS students, although PhD students are given priority.  **Note: This option has been paused due to COVID-19.**
  • Dean’s Matching Travel Grant - Provides matching funding of up to $300 for domestic and $400 for international conference travel.  Operates on a rolling basis with most funding awarded during the fall semester. Open to undergraduate and graduate  students attending both academic conferences and professionally oriented conferences and competitions through a student organization. **Note: This option has been paused due to COVID-19.**

Faculty Course Development and Student Support Funding

  • Undergraduate and Graduate Committee Course Funds - Requests for funding to support new course development or the improvement of existing courses should be directed to peter.hamlington@colorado.edu (graduate) or debbie.yeh@colorado.edu (undergraduate).
  • Earn Learn Apprenticeships - The ELA program provides matching funds to hire student employees who will be engaged in meaningful, educationally based work. ELA funding cannot be used for research positions. Questions from ME faculty can be directed to kassie.vanpelt@colorado.edu
