• September 2016: Engaged faculty, IT, and Lead Team participants to lead the project.
  • October 2016: Held project kick-off meeting. Launched discovery phase with Faculty and IT Working Groups, and Lead Team, which identified critical campus needs.
  • November 2016: Distributed campus-wide survey to gather feedback from faculty, students, and staff. Analyzed additional data to further understand the student experience. For more information see: http://www.colorado.edu/lms/learn-more/reports.
  • December 2016 and January 2017: Developed request for proposals (RFP) heavily informed by faculty survey and student data.
  • February 2017: Identified key evaluation criteria: 1) user experience design, 2) software and technical, 3) timeline and implementation, 4) support and training, 5) security and compliance, 6) company qualifications, and 7) cost. Published RFP. Hosted three campus-wide town halls to share survey results, and provide faculty with an opportunity to share insights and ask further questions.
  • March 2017: Published Faculty and Student Survey reports. Narrowed five candidates to three finalist after assessing their proposals against the seven evaluation criteria.
  • April 2017: Conducted campus vendor visits with Brightspace by Desire2Learn, Canvas by Instructure, and Moodlerooms by Blackboard. Faculty, students, and staff are evaluating sandbox environments, conducting user experience studies, and validating requirements.  
  • April 26 - May 3: Compiled data from campus visits, sandbox environment evaluations, user experience studies, and requirements validation activity for summary report. 
  • May 3 - May 8: Faculty and IT Working Groups reviewed the report, scored vendors according to the seven criteria, and made a recommendation to the Lead Team. 
  • May 10: Lead Team reviewed the report and the two working groups’ recommendations and provided final recommendation to the executive sponsors, Mary Kraus and Larry Levine.
  • May 12: Executive sponsors discussed final decision. 
  • May 18: Announcement about our intent to enter negotiations published. 
  • July 25: Selection of Canvas announced to the Campus.
