Stones Peak, Mount Julian and mountain between
Arapaho Woxeihto(o)
Analysis

Wox-eihto(o)

Bear-foot (or Bear Claws)

Translation Bear Paws

Notes: Stones Peak (12,922') is the massive mountain beyond the mouth of Forest Canyon up the Big Thompson River. Together with Mount Julian (12,928') and the mountain between, this area is a favorite habitat for bears. Bear claws are an important symbol in Arapaho designs and beadwork. This woman's pouch is used for combs and body paint. The center crosses represent morning stars, the pink triangles are tipis, the border symbolizes trails and mountain ranges, and the three-pronged shapes are bear claws. The design in its entirety is a wish for prosperity and good life.
