Call for submissions

CU Boulder undergraduate students have the opportunity to share their unique stories with the campus community during the University Libraries’ first Buffs One Read Storytelling Contest and exhibit.

A panel of judges will select three winners to receive a $500 prize each and have their works recognized at a celebratory event. The deadline has been extended and the Libraries are now accepting contest submissions through January 26, 2022.

This year’s Buffs One Read selection is American Like Me: Reflections on Life Between Cultures, edited by actress and activist America Ferrera. It captures the personal stories and narratives of 32 writers who reflect on the spaces between the many cultures of America and beyond.

The contest invites students to do the same—to reflect on their experiences of America—and reply to the question: Who are you, and what is American Like You? Submissions can be any creative expression—short essay, visual art, or multi-modal.

Following the announcement, all eligible submissions will be invited to display their works in the Libraries during the remainder of the Spring 2022 semester.

The winning submissions will be announced in advance of the exhibit reception on March 11, 2022.
