Portraits by the artist

The University Libraries and the CU Boulder Pride Office are pleased to exhibit “Transcend: Transgender Voices,” a selection of portraits by painter Rae Senarighi in the Norlin Commons. The exhibition opens Sept. 10.

Senarighi is a transgender, nonbinary artist whose dream is to celebrate accurate representation of trans and nonbinary people through painted portraiture worldwide. Each portrait in Senarighi’s TRANSCEND series represents a person who is openly trans/nonbinary.

"There are poets and writers, musicians and teachers, activists and speakers, athletes and modern dancers, photographers and artists – people who are living their lives out in the open, with grace and courage and telling their unique stories in their own way," said Senarighi.

In celebration of their individuality, each subject is painted in bright, rainbow colors that represent pride in intersectional held identities.

An in-person opening and celebration of Senarighi’s work will take place Thursday, September 16, at 4 p.m. at the Sundial Plaza. Attendees will be encouraged to view the art on display at the Laughing Goat Cafe and participate in an art and poetry project at the Sundial Plaza, where they will create affirming and celebratory poems for themselves.

The first 35 attendees will receive vouchers for free coffee at the Laughing Goat. Registration is not required.
