Cover of American like me bookThis fall, the University Libraries are hosting a series of workshops to further community engagement with American Like Me: Reflections on Life Between Cultures from America Ferrera.

The workshop series, “Connecting Community and Culture,” will explore the narratives and themes featured in the 2021 Buffs One Read selection. The sessions will hone in on excerpts from Ferrera’s collection of essays and explore essayists’ journeys toward self-discovery. Attendees will have an opportunity to explore aspects of identity and culture through contemplative reading techniques, conversations surrounding food and family and reflections on personal experience.

Members of the CU Boulder community are invited to attend any or all sessions, whether or not you have finished reading American Like Me. All materials, readings and supplies will be provided during the workshops.

“Connecting Community and Culture” is meant to supplement the campus community course on the book of essays, and discussions introduced during the Buffs One Read kickoff event with Ferrera.
