Effective August 16, the University Libraries’ stacks will reopen, and online access to the HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS) will be discontinued. Below are the four things to know:
All libraries re-open to public August 16
On August 16, the University Libraries – including the branch libraries – will reopen and in-person library services will resume. This means that the public will be able to browse the libraries’ stacks and once again access our physical materials directly.
It also signals a big change in how we can provide access to library materials which could affect course syllabi and research in progress.
Transition in access from online to physical
While the stacks were closed, we were able to offer emergency access to thousands of digitized materials online through our membership with the HathiTrust and the HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS).
With the stacks reopening on August 16, ETAS will end and digital materials that were labeled as “Temporary Access” will no longer be available online.
How you can prepare
Researchers and instructors working with these materials should prepare for this switch by saving citations, finding substitute materials in our collections and updating any information on syllabi.
How do I find substitutes? We provide a number of ways for you to access these materials:

Search the catalog and find the physical item in the stacks.

Request copies through Interlibrary Loan or Prospector.

Suggest the library purchase a copy for the collection.
