At the 2019 Spring Awards Ceremony, the University Libraries faculty and staff were celebrated for their service in leadership roles, their contributions to academic scholarship and the success of the Libraries, as well as their years of service.

Three annual awards were presented to longtime faculty and staff with the Libraries. Staff archivist David Hays received the 25th Marie and Martha Campbell Award–an award presented to a respected staff member who has consistently demonstrated excellence and made outstanding contributions to the Libraries. Associate Professor Barbara Losoff received the Libraries’ 29th Ralph E. Ellsworth Award, established in 1990 to recognize faculty like Ellsworth for outstanding service and contributions to the Libraries, the University of Colorado Boulder, and the profession overall. The 3rd James F. Williams, II, Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Libraries Building Manager Carl Stewart for his contributions to the buildings over the course of his career.

Faculty and staff who received awards outside of the Libraries were also recognized at the Spring Awards ceremony:

Linda Bagley was awarded a travel grant to attend and present at the annual Mountain-Plains Chapter of the Music Library Association meeting at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

Clara Burns received an IDEAL ‘19: Advancing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility in Libraries and Archives, Conference Scholarship Award in Columbus, Ohio and a travel grant to attend and present at the annual Mountain-Plains Chapter of the Music Library Association meeting at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

Anna Ferris was awarded a Jewish Studies Faculty Fellowship from the Program in Jewish Studies Executive Committee.

Deborah Hollis received a Teti Fellowship at the New Hampshire Institute of Art to compare collecting patterns between the holdings of their John Teti Rare Photography Book Collection and CU Boulder’s David H. Tippit Photobook Collection.

Lisa Kippur was appointed to the United for Libraries, Awards Committee, American Library Association (ALA) and served as a contributing writer for their newsletter.

Thea Lindquist received a project grant from the Research Council for Culture and Society, Academy of Finland through 2021 for the project “Learning to Support Historian’s Work Tasks in Transformation,” as well as a President’s Fund for the Humanities from the University of Colorado System with Lori Emerson and Maya Livio in the Intermedia Art, Writing and Performance program for the “What is a Feminist Lab? Symposium.”

Adam Lisbon was accepted into the Mirari Generations Leadership Program presented by the Sakura Foundation in partnership with the U.S.-Japan Council.

Sol Lopez received an IDEAL ‘19: Advancing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility in Libraries and Archives, Conference Scholarship Award in Columbus, Ohio. She also received a Diversity Scholarship Award from the University of Kentucky and the Ohio Valley Regional Technical Services Libraries to attend their 2019 Annual Conference.

Paul Moeller, Chris Long, Jim Kalwara, Erik Radio, Laura Wright, George Machovec (the Alliance and others) headed CU Boulder’s LD4P (Libraries Linked Data for Production) cohort.

Theresa Ortega was recognized by the CU Boulder Staff Council for 21 years of employment and the daily shepherding of CU students.

Leslie Reynolds, Merinda McLure, Caroline Sinkinson, and Melissa Cantrell received an award for the Colorado OER Grant Program project Open CU: Building a Sustainable OER Initiative Across the University of Colorado from the Colorado Department of Higher Education. This award was given to all University of Colorado campuses.

Ryan Seward was awarded a grant to attend the annual meeting of the Mountain-Plains Chapter of the Music Library Association at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, where he gave a 25-minute presentation.

Juleah Swanson received a 2018 Outstanding Accomplishment Award for Administrative and Technical Support Services from the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, which oversees the National Center for Atmospheric Research (UCAR/NCAR) for work on the collaboration between CU Boulder Libraries and UCAR/NCAR.

Alex Watkins, Allan Van Hoye, Claire Hoag, Mark Locy, Stacy Gilbert, and Deirdre Keating received the 2018 Social Media Award at ALADN for their #CUBookBuff campaign.

Megan Welsh was awarded a Value of Academic Libraries travel grant, ACRL, to present at the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) Diversity, Equity, and Student Success Conference in Pittsburgh March 28-30, 2019 with Lindsay Roberts and Jeremy C. Moore.

Dean Robert McDonald and Associate Professor Gabrielle Wiersma, who was recognized for achieving tenure and her new position as Director of Scholarly Resource Development.

“This really just shows how dedicated and outgoing our library faculty and staff are in terms their involvement with library organizations and external groups,” said Dean of Libraries Robert McDonald. “These are the awards they received for being so active and involved.”
