The University Libraries are offering educators affiliated with the university an opportunity to participate in an Open Educational Resources (OER) professional development. This opportunity is sponsored by OpenCU, a project funded by a grant from the Colorado Department of Higher Education and with additional support from the CU Office of the President, CU Office of Academic Affairs, and the Office of the Provost.

The University of Colorado System is moving forward with a multi-campus OER initiative that will enhance OER awareness, evaluation, adoption across the campuses through existing infrastructure, expertise, advocacy, and leadership support.

Open CU Boulder strives to encourage alternatives to high-cost course materials through OER and encourages a teaching culture that explores new pedagogical models for learning.

Thousands of students will benefit from financial savings through Open CU’s effort, which will enhance the quality of student learning across campuses.

By lowering the cost of learning for students, CU Boulder can increase the number of students who have access to required course materials and increase the number of faculty advocates for OER.

Those interested in participating must attend an informational 1.5-hour workshop on OER in Norlin Library on either Monday, April 15, 3-4:30 p.m. or Friday, April 19, 9-10:30 a.m. Then by May 30, applicants must write a brief review of an open textbook of interest.

The application deadline is March 18, 2019. All campus educators with current, paid appointments, including instructors/senior instructors, temporary/permanent faculty, and graduate part-time teaching instructors are invited to apply.

Preference will be given to faculty who will teach a Fall 2019/Spring 2020 large enrollment/lower-division undergraduate course with high textbook costs. Selected applicants will be notified of their acceptance by March 29.

Selected participants that engage in the 2-part learning experience will receive a $250 stipend.
