About the course:
Are you struggling to maintain your language proficiency? As a language teacher, you may have few opportunities to practice higher levels of the language you teach, especially if you often teach the lower levels. Over time, your proficiency might decrease and you might lose confidence in your ability and get nervous speaking the target language, especially with native speakers. This course will pair you up with a sympathetic language partner (all the LP are native speakers). For most languages, you will have several partners to choose from. The sessions will take place online. We use a very user-friendly platform with excellent tech support. The platform audio records the session, but you will be the only one to have access to the audio recording. Many students report feeling nervous before their first session and often sad to say goodbye to their language partner when the course is over.
Language partners are available for: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic and Japanese
This 6-week fully online course is mostly asynchronous but not self-paced. There are weekly deadlines. All course materials (readings, podcasts, etc) are provided within the course shell.
LGTC 5045 is worth 1 graduate credit. It is an elective. Completion of this course counts towards the 12-credit graduate certificate in Language Teaching with Technology. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to download a transcript showing that you have completed the course.
Tuition and Funding:
You will need a reliable Internet connection and a recent computer (desktop or laptop, not a tablet) with a functional sound card and webcam.
